June 1
Today is the start of week 9 and I’m still feeling great! The baby is the size of an olive, which will forever have me looking at martinis in a different light.

Week 10 and still no morning sickness, so I’m pretty sure I’m in the clear! Our baby is currently working hard at building bones and trying to make me constipated. Tiny buds of baby teeth are also forming under the gums which I’m sure will make breastfeeding loads of fun as the months go on! I still haven’t gained any weight yet, which I’m happy about, but my body shape is definitely changing. I’m getting a little more “poochy” in the belly area, but luckily all my regular clothes are still fitting fine. I’ve been eating a lot of gummi bears lately, which is a little disturbing since the gummi bears look incredibly similar to our baby’s 8 week ultrasound picture:

See what I’m saying?
June 10
We had our second prenatal appointment this morning and got to hear our little baby’s heartbeat again! It was beating at 175bpm–nice and strong! The clinic I’m going to has a staff of four doctors that you rotate seeing throughout your pregnancy and one of them is guaranteed to deliver your baby when the time comes. We got to meet with our first doctor today and really liked him. Of course we came armed with questions. It’s not that we had many questions per say, it was more that I was concerned that coming without questions might make us look bad. You know–like at the end of a job interview and the interviewers ask, “Do you have any questions?” Saying “no” gives the impression that you haven’t prepared or just don’t care enough to ask anything. Certainly not the first impression we want to give our baby’s doctor! So I asked about things like working out and using self tanner. You know–the important stuff.

We had a night planned with friends that wasn’t scheduled to start until 7pm and I knew I’d need a little help to stay awake, so I had the first caffeine of my pregnancy–a can of Diet Pepsi. We spent the night playing cards with our friends the Langes and the Manskes, and the girls continued their reign of beating the boys at euchre. I didn’t get to bed until 1:00am, but it was worth it!

I thought I’d be exhausted today since I didn’t get to bed until late last night early this morning. I had every intention of sleeping in, but I woke up at 7am and had the most energy of my pregnancy so far. I spent the day cleaning out our 5th bedroom/workout room, rearranging the equipment and furniture, and then I painted the entire room–all by myself! Check out the results here: Our Workout (a Compromise) Room

Eleven weeks, and still feeling great! I just found out our little baby reached a milestone at the end of last week, graduating from “embryo” to “fetus.” Too bad we didn’t know it at the time–we could have thrown it a little party!

We celebrated G’s first Father’s Day today–he’s going to be such a wonderful dad!

Twelve weeks today and I’m still feeling great! I’ve even been getting some energy back, so now I really don’t feel pregnant–it’s very strange! We had another prenatal appointment this afternoon–the first trimester screening. The baby’s heart rate is currently 170bpm and s/he is measuring at 5 centimeters–right on track with the due date! The screen consisted of an ultrasound and a finger prick for a blood sample. The ultrasound was amazing! This was our second ultrasound, but the it was the first time we actually got to see the baby move. More on this (and pictures) in an upcoming post. The second part of the screen was a finger prick which–unlike blood draws–I wasn’t worried about at all. I was pretty sure I could handle a little finger prick, but HOLY HELL THAT HURT! I think the lab technician almost stabbed me to the bone! Test results come back in about a week and they said they would only contact us if there was concerning news, otherwise they’d update us at our next appointment, so no news is good news!
June 25
My fricking finger STILL hurts from that damn finger prick!
June 26
I must look pregnant today. I went to the post office over lunch and someone kindly held the door for me to walk in, and again (different person) when I walked out. I could get used to this!
June 28
I saw the movie “The Proposal” today. You know–that romantic comedy starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds.
Yeah. I cried through pretty much the entire second half of the movie. And by “cried” what I really mean is I was bawling my eyes out and getting strange looks from everyone in the theatre. It was embarrassing. Even as I was wiping the snot off my face with my salt and butter-covered napkin I knew it was absolutely absurd that I was crying so damn hard at this movie. But I couldn’t help myself! Normal Dusty would have been embarrassed on the actors’ behalf at some of the cheesy parts. Normal Dusty would have been cringing. But Pregnant Dusty? Forget it. I kept looking around to see if anyone else was as emotional over it as I was, and sure enough I appeared to be the only one knocked up at the Sunday matinee. I will have to rent this movie once my hormones are back to normal just to truly appreciate how embarrassed I should have been on this day.

Today marks the start of my thirteenth week–the last week of my first trimester! I’ve been feeling great and definitely have more energy back which is good. I haven’t gained any weight yet, but my body is definitely starting to change. I had some light cramping/tightening in my lower abs late last week. I looked it up and found out it’s “ligament stretching” which is common at the end of the first trimester and means my uterus is growing to make more room for baby. I definitely have a little baby bump coming on now! I’m still wearing all my regular clothes without having to rig anything up, but I don’t think that’ll last much longer. So exciting!

Call me crazy, but I think the hormonal movie cries are really cute in pregnant ladies. I mean, who wouldn’t want to hug someone so sensitive who is so sensitive because she’s, oh you know, perpetuating the species?
Oh my, that gummy bear comparison may be the most accurate yet cutest thing I’ve seen! Here’s a random thought for ya, whenever I eat too many gummy bears, my stomach starts feeling queasy (not pregnant) so I’ve started calling it “Gummy Tummy”. As in, don’t eat too many gummy bears, you’ll get gummy tummy.
Anyway, in case you’re in need of a 65th throw pillow, I’m giving one away today!
I love reading all your baby updates! If you really want to see a little gummi bear, check out our second ultrasound picture – it looks like we edited it, but it’s all baby!

Love the gummy bear comparison…that’s hilarious!
Your kiddo will die laughing at this stuff someday.

I was 37 weeks when we saw The Proposal, and I did the same thing. Don’t worry- you aren’t the only one! I love your pregnancy updates and wish you the best as you progress!
have to agree with Shannon 100%: gummy bear comparison is perfect!
I have noticed people holding the door for me while I’m pregnant too. Even like teenage boys! I must really look sad and sorry! Glad everything is going well!
I literally laughed out loud over the movie thing…when I was about halfway through my pregnancy with my son, my husband and I rented Troy, and I cried so hard when the brother (Hector, was it?) died that my husband made me turn the movie off because He was afraid I was going to make myself sick!
Glad you and the gummy bear are doing well. Enjoy every minute – ther’s nothing in the world quite like it!
I don’t think I will ever look at Gummy Bears the same way.
So if you want to laugh at a movie, go see The Ugly Truth. Hilarious! If you cry at that one…
Glad things have been going good!
@Erin–Aww, I love your perspective.
@Shannon–I giggled at “gummy tummy.” That’s too cute!
@Ashley–What an adorable u/s picture–thanks for sharing!
@jbhat–Thanks for the reminder that I may need to go through and edit some of this stuff before my child learns how to read. At the very least I definitely need to go through my college scrapbook and burn a few pictures, lol!
@Julie & Stacy–Glad to hear I’m not alone, lol!
@Rose–Even teenage boys?? Wow–I’m impressed!
@Anonymous–I recently saw The Ugly Truth, and you’re right–I’m pretty sure I didn’t cry at that one. Whew!
Glad things are going so well for you. I got a huge chuckle out of your reaction to the movie. It brought back so many funny memories. I absolutely adore the gummy bears. Very clever.
