Red Dress & A Windy Day

August 12, 2009 By Dusty Rogers 16 Comments

It was so windy on this day, but luckily I didn’t have any wardrobe malfunctions!

Dress: Gap Outlet
Shoes: Nicole (from DSW)
Pregnancy: 17 weeks

Here’s a little tip I like to keep in mind when buying an empire waist dress: I try to look for styles that limit any gathering to just the center of the dress (like this one). A lot of times gathered fabric all the way around the waistline makes you look “hippier” than you are.

Got any dress buying tips of your own to share? I’d love to hear them!

So classy! I’ve bought three knit dresses since spring. My sister who is about 18 weeks as well tried one on it if fit great. Almost half way into the pregnancy and she’s still stealing my clothes :)

cute dress! Looks great on you too.

My dress tip is to find something that hits just above the knee. I find if it hits at the knee or just below, my legs look “chopped” off. (but i am also 6 feet tall too)!

    Style and Sass!

    Red looks great on you!

…I’m without dress buying tips. I try to avoid them when at all possible. šŸ˜‰ I think I have some sort of dressphobia.

    Hopefully your style will inspire!

    Thanks for your comments everyone!

@blondie–I’ve also found that dresses are so nice to wear during pregnancy. You’ll be seeing a lot of dresses coming up in future posts!

@Rebecca–I’m so jealous of your height! I’m only 5’4″ (grr) and I so wish I were taller. My BFF is also 6′ tall (like you) and I just think that height is so beautiful!

I’ve been liking wearing dresses so much lately, I’ve started my own little “wear a dress every day” challenge (I’m on Day 12!). I like how dresses make me feel. My tip: I look for dresses I can make work for more than one season by layering and switching out sandals for boots, etc. Your dress is gorgeous!

I love your style! Wanna come shopping with me and help me pick out clothes that flatter my body shape? šŸ˜‰ Seriously, how do you find clothes that look so good on you?

Thanks June! I’d love to go shopping with you! And I’m not so sure I always find clothes that look good on me (I’ve had more than my fair share of misses!) but I can tell you one thing–I try on EVERYTHING. I don’t purchase a single item w/o trying it on first. And then when I take it home I try it on again (in my own mirror w/o all the tricky lighting) and if it doesn’t work I return it. I have no problem returning items that I just don’t think will work for me. So there are my two little tips. Hope that helps!
